Dog diapers, also known as dog britches or panties, are important if you have a female dog in heat or a dog incontinent. They can be a valuable tool for keeping your house or other surroundings clean. And if you have the mess contained, your dog can spend time with you instead of being locked in a crate or shut outside.
What's important when choosing a diaper for your dog?
- It should be made of soft fabric with a fit that doesn't rub or bind anywhere.
- The design should allow the diaper to stay in place.
- Diapers need to keep the mess contained.
If your dog needs a diaper, they'll probably spend a lot of time in them. If they're in heat, the cycle can last 2-3 weeks. An incontinent dog might need them all day, every day. That's why whatever you choose should be as comfortable as possible.
This diagram shows the most important measurements for getting the best fitting diaper for your dog. You'll want to be sure you measure from IN FRONT of the groin to prevent rubbing of that sensitive skin just in front of the back legs. My design sits further forward than many other designs for this reason.
A - Wrap the measuring tape or even a string around the smallest part of the groin (waist) of your dog and measure along the backbone to the place where the tail attaches to the back.
B - Measure from the string you wrapped around the smallest part of the groin on top, through the legs and back to that string on the belly side.
C - This is the measurement of the smallest part of the groin itself.
Be sure to provide the breed or breeds to give me a better mental image of your dog. The more information you can provide, the better the outcome. Accurate measurements can make a big difference, so please use a cloth measuring tape. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, no matter how small.
